A straight mug thrown on the wheel with an iron rich blend of clays, decorated with pear blossom sprigs. The glaze is a deep black tenmoku, made from only one local rock - a glacial till - and ground, recycled glass.
Beneath the glaze is a slip made with iron rich clay from a former steelworks, which causes the glaze to break into fine red streaks, which run down the pot vertically in a pattern known as “Hares Fur”.
Fired in the gas kiln in a reduction atmosphere.
