A thick, rustic plate made from a coarse slab of iron-rich stoneware. Suitable for serving sushi, gyoza, or for burning incense and storing trinkets.
It has been pressed onto a wooden mould and glazed with a black, Tenmoku glaze, and a Nuka Ash glaze.
The tenmoku glaze is made using a single, iron bearing rock - a local glacial sediment - with an addition of crushed, recycled glass. It is an opaque, glossy black where thick, with a pleasing dimpled texture like orange peel in places. Where the glaze breaks on the pots edges it turns a bright, rust, red, with hints of deep blue at the boundary.
The off-white, Nuka glaze is made using locally sourced Cherry ash, and where the glazes pool together, they have melted beautifully into the base of the plate with an effect reminiscent of a waterfall or melting snow.
Fired in the gas kiln in a reduction atmosphere.
Dimensions: 15×12cm
Weight: 450g
