A set of two yunomi, or footed cups, thrown on the wheel with a blend of iron-rich stoneware clays and glazed with an alkaline ash glaze.
The alkaline glaze is a traditional North Carolinian recipe, made up of only locally sourced Cherry ash, ground glass and locally sourced clay, in this case a sandy, earthenware clay from my old street in Stoke-on-Trent.
The glaze is a satin green / brown where thinner, with a beautiful rivulet pattern caused by the viscous glaze stringing as it flows down the sides of each cup. In the base of each cup the glaze has pooled to a deep, opalescent blue, akin to a lagoon of fresh water.
Fired in the gas kiln in a reduction atmosphere
Capacity: 100ml each
Dimensions: 7×7cm each
Weight: 200g each
