Nuka / Tenmoku Trinket Dish

£16.00
sold out

A small dish for keeping precious things.

Thrown on the wheel with a blend of iron-rich stoneware clays, decorated with a white slip and glazed with an alkaline ash glaze.

Thrown on the wheel with a blend of high-iron stoneware, and glazed with a Nuka ash glaze.

The tenmoku glaze is made using a single, iron bearing rock - a local glacial sediment - with an addition of crushed, recycled glass. It is an opaque, glossy black where thick, with a pleasing dimpled texture like orange peel in places. Where the glaze breaks on the pots edges it turns a bright, rust, red, with hints of deep blue at the boundary.

The off-white, Nuka glaze is made using locally sourced Cherry ash, and pools beautifully into the base of the bowl with an effect reminiscent of a waterfall or melting snow.

Fired in the gas kiln in a reduction atmosphere.

Dimensions: 8.5×2cm

Weight: 120g
