A small dish for keeping precious things.
Thrown on the wheel with a blend of iron-rich stoneware clays, decorated with a white slip and glazed with an alkaline ash glaze.
The alkaline glaze is a traditional North Carolinian recipe, made up of only locally sourced Cherry ash, ground glass and local clay, in this case a sandy, earthenware clay from my old street in Stoke-on-Trent.
The glaze is a satin green / brown where thinner, with shades of jade green, jewel-like glass, or opalescent blue where it pools in the base of the dish, akin to fresh water.
Fired in the gas kiln in a reduction atmosphere.
Dimensions: 8.5×2cm
Weight: 120g
